MACHUPICCHU BY TRAIN 02 DAYS / 01 NIGHT OPTION

For those short on time or who simply do not want to trek to Machu Picchu these 2 day train packages are the perfect option for you!

Itinerary

Day1:

You will be picked up in the afternoon from the Ukukus Travel office (departure time will be confirmed in the briefing the evening before departure) and brought to Ollantaytambo by bus where you will have about 1hour to explore the town before catching your train to Aguas Calientes. There will be somebody to pick you up in the train station and bring you to the hostel where you will meet your guide who will brief you about your Machu Picchu tour for the following day.

MACHUPICCHU – OLLANTAYTAMBO – CUSCO

After breakfast we take the bus at approx 05:30am and arrive to the santuary at 06.00am when the gates open.

An early morning guided tour of Machupicchu “The Old Sacred Mountain” before the crowds arrive takes approx 03 hrs and leads you through all the most important archeological sites with the insights of very capable guides. Then you have plenty of free time for more exploring, photos or optional hikes.

eg climb Huayna Picchu mountain (2,700 m, 50min, steep gradient)

Walk to the Temple of the moon (3-4 Hr)

Walk to "Intipunku" the Sun`s Gate where end classic Inca Trail; (1.5 hr)

Walk to the Inca bridge located at south from Machupicchu( 1 hr )

All these walks are without a guide are clearly signed and easy to find.

In the afternoon bus Machupicchu- Aguas calientes town from where we take our train back to Ollantaytambo and finally bus connection to Cusco.

18:45hrs - 21:30hrs

Arrival time to Cusco:22:30hrs or 1:00am aprox.

How Hard Is The Hike To Huayna Picchu?

The trail is very steep and can be crowded. People who have trouble with vertigo may not enjoy this trek.

What Is The Best Time To Hike Huayna Picchu?

We recommend the 10:00 - 11:00am entry time as it is more flexible with tours and allows travelers a more relaxed experience at the ruins.

When Does Machu Picchu Open/Close?

The ruins open at 6:00am and closes at 5:00pm.

How Long Do Most People Spend On MP?

The majority of people will spend about 6 to 7 hrs in Machu Picchu.

What Is The Difference Between Huayna Picchu/Machu Picchu Mountain?

Huayna Picchu is the mountain located at the northwest end of the ruins and Machu Picchu mountain is located at the southwest end. Huayna Picchu is steeper, but more popular and has some interesting archeological ruins at the top. Machu Picchu mountain is a longer trek, less steep and less crowded and offers great views over Machu Picchu. How Long Does It Take To Get From Cusco To Aguas Calientes?

Cusco - Ollantaytambo by bus is around 1hr 45 min. to 2hrs. The train ride from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes takes another 1hr 30 min. to 1hr 45 min. So think about up to a total of 4 hrs. Aguas Calientes back to Cusco is the same travel time.

The hike up to Machu Picchu takes around 1hr 45min and about the same time to go back down

How Hard Is The Hike From Aguas Calientes To Machu Picchu?

The trail is comprised of stairs and is fairly steep, but taken slowly should not be a problem for most people.

The trail takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour to climb up and about 30 minutes to get down.
